Malta Independent Monday, 21 March 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Microsoft Malta’s annual corporate social responsibility day must have been the most colourful one as this year, all employees opted to team up with Inspire, The Foundation for Inclusion, to help organise the recently hosted children’s Carnival Party.

Besides a cash donation of € 1000 as well as Microsoft hardware & software to be utilized during the therapeutic programs run by Inspire, all the Microsoft Malta team volunteered for the day and was present to help in the the organization and logistics. Some of the employees even involved their own children too!

The event, held at Gondolier Hall in Gudja turned out to be a huge success witnessed by a hall packed with over 150 kids who in the company of their parents, enjoyed a full programme of entertainment by local singers, a magician and a costume competition which awarded prizes to the best and most original five costumes. Party food and soft drinks were served to all children whilst coffee and tea was at hand for the parents.

The excitement shot up when the children found out that all those present in costume were participating in a lottery which saw a lucky winner taking back home a brand new Xbox 360 game console together with Kinect. This lucky winner will now be seeing his games and entertainment come to life in an extraordinary new way without using a controller.

Angela Micallef, Community Affairs Lead for Microsoft in Malta explained Microsoft Malta’s belief in the importance of companies and institutions that they give back to the community in which they operate. “In fact, apart from our financial contribution to assist Inspire organise this party, we as employees also joined in throughout the event and with our active presence, we did our best to guarantee that all the children had a good time. We were very happy to have had this opportunity to work with Inspire by supporting their Carnival party more so, knowing that this initaitive was perfectly in line with our mission to support activities that promote social inclusion.”

Speaking about Microsoft Malta’s participation, Joshua Farrugia, Inspire’s Fundraising Manager noted that ‘Microsoft Malta are an excellent example of why CSR days are mutually beneficial to both the charitable organisation and the benefactor involved. Not only have they supported financially enabling us to continue providing specialist care to hundreds of disabled children and adults but involving them in organising such a fun activity offered an ideal teambuilding opportunity to help boost staff morale knowing they contributed towards improving the quality of life of some of these children. We encourage other companies to do the same.”
