A studious first half with only one short corner won by Young Stares after 22 minutes produced a tremendous effort by Chris Attard which was deflected past the post.

Both teams created a half chance each in the final minutes before the half time.

The second half was different kettle of fish altogether.

The game was played at a higher tempo and Hotsticks went ahead in the 53 minute through Steve Portelli after winning three short corners in a row.

Young Stars’ reaction was immediate and the in the 56 minute Ivan Magro Dingli levelled the score after his team had forced two short corners.

They continued putting pressure on the Hotsticks rearguard and Mark Camilleri shot them ahead in the 60 minutes. Hotsticks reacted to try and save a game which they had led for approximately half the playing time.

They won three short corners but were defied by the experienced Young Stars keeper, James Mizzi.

In the end they were unable to break through and Young Stars ran out winners of this close encounter.
