The Malta Weightlifting Association will be organising the last competition as part of the preparations before the Maltese athletes start their participation in International competitions.

This event will be held next Sunday and ‘lift off’ will be at 10.30am. Everyone is invited to attend the event and entrance is free.

During the past week Jesmond Caruana, president of the association, participated in the IWF world anti-doping congress which dealt with several topics. One hundred and fifty representatives from around the world took part in this congress which was organised in Istanbul, Turkey, by the International Federation.

During this same congress, trophies were presented to the best two athletes of 2010, who were Behdad Salimikordasiabi of Iran and Svetlana Podobedova of Kazakstan.
