The Yellow/Blues were the better outfit in this game and fully deserved the verdict as they created much more chances than Melita showing more coordination in their moves.
San Gwann are in 8th place on 21 points from 17 games while Melita are in penultimate position with only 11 points, also from 17 games.
The early pressure came from San Gwann as they mounted three actions in a row. Gosue Pace served Abouhaisa Nezar Fauri with a cross from the right, but with an open goal at his mercy, he drove out with only Melita keeper Jean M Zammit to beat.
Pace then served Dylon Raynor in the area and after Zammit partly saved his shot the ball was cleared to a corner, which was taken by Nickolai Bickle and the ball was cleared on the line from a shot by Abouhaisa. From an other Bickle corner kick Pace drove slightly over the bar.
San Gwann keeper Mark Vella then saved a free kick shot by Daniel Sciberras after Isaac Curmi was fouled on the right flank and also saved on Curmi after a Luke Agius through ball and later saved another free kick by Sciberras after Agius was fouled outside the area.
In another San Gwann attack, Raynor released Karl Borg on the right flank who, after advancing crossed the ball in the area and Zammit saved a header by Aidan Borda.
Four minutes before the break San Gwann took the lead when Abouhaisa dribbled past a defender on the left flank, served Pace in the area for the latter to score with a close-range low shot.
But their joy was shortlived as two minutes later Melita equalized. Dylan Cuschieri was fouled on the right flank and Zack MacKay floated a high ball in the area from the free kick and Michael Cutajar rose above friend and foe to score with a header.
A few minutes after the restart Zammit came to his side’s rescue in two consecutive occasions; first he saved a cross-shot by Raynor and then foiled Borda in the area by diving at his feet.
In the 50th minute Melita were reduced to 10 men as Agius was shown the red card after a second booking.
San Gwann created two further actions. Raynor served Abouhaisa in the area and Zammit saved his shot.
After Bickle was fouled outside the area, Zammit saved the free kick by Dylan Galea in two attempts.
In the 69th minute San Gwann scored a second goal when Abouhaisa, after beating a defender, served Borda with a square pass in the area and the latter scored with a lobbed ball.
San Gwann then won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Raynor and after the ball was partly cleared, Zammit saved the rebound by substitute McCanby.
Just before the final whistle, San Gwann put the issue beyond doubt when Abouhaisa served Borda with a through ball who after out-speeding a defender entered the area and flicked the ball in the net past the on-rushing Zammit.
