Bank of Valletta has once again supported the Malta Mathematics Olympiad. This Olympiad, now in its sixth year, is organised by the Malta Mathematical Society and the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department within the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education with the aim of fostering problem-solving skills in young students in an atmosphere of healthy competition. It is also intended to promote team work. The Malta Mathematics Olympiad is open to students attending both state and non-state secondary schools in Malta and Gozo.

This event was held in Malta for the first time in 2000 to commemorate the World Mathematical Year. It has witnessed increasing participation and popularity with students and schools in each edition.

Bank of Valletta Marketing Manager Charles Azzopardi presented the BOV Prize to Peter Valletta from Savio College. The prize for second place was won by Kurt Dalli, and the third prize went to Jurgen Gatt, both also from Savio College. The team award was won by Savio College followed by Verdala International School and San Andrea School. Malta Council for Science and Technology chairman Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando presented the team awards.

“Bank of Valletta supports excellence in learning through the education pillar of the bank’s community programme”, said Mr Azzopardi. “I take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and also all the participants in this Olympiad, and the organisers who have made this event such a success”.
