The MFA has decided that no bonus is to be paid to the players after the defeat against Greece despite the good performance of the players.
The association announced on Tuesday evening during a council meeting that new bonuses for national team players have been introduced.
There will now be a Line-Up bonus for the 18 players forming the squad selected for a particular match. This amounts to €300 for a friendly match and €700 for a competitive match.
Moreover, in case of a friendly draw, players will receive €250 each while in case of a draw in a competitive match, they will earn €1,750. For a friendly win, they will receive €500 while a win in a competitive match will earn them a bonus of €3,500.
Because of the new system, the MFA is expected to fork out a minimum of €160,000 to players for a qualifying campaign consisting of ten matches, if no points were obtained.
MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo made it clear that this was the association’s final offer. He said that if there were players who decide not to turn up for training sessions, they would still be eligible to play for the national team. But it would be up to the coaches to see whether they are fit to be selected to join the squad.
