Snooker: Good Start for Maltese teams in Euro Championships

The Maltese teams taking part in the European Snooker Championships, being hosted at the Dolmen Hotel in Qawra, Malta had a good start with with wins on Wednesday.

Malta 1, made up of Alex Borg, Tony Drago and Duncan Bezzina beat Malta 4 with a 10-2 score and Romania 10-0. Drago registered a century break of 107 against Malta 4.

In Group B, Malta 2, made up of Clayton Castaldi, Mario Brincat and Frans Mintoff beat Finland 10-2 and Ukraine10-4.

Malta 3 also registered two wins against France (10-2) and Sweden (10-9).

In the Masters, Simon Zammit and Guzi Grech started well with a win of 5-1 against Israel, while Malta’s other team of Tony Mifsud and Ivan Rizzo lost 0-5 to Russia on Wednesday.

The Ladies team, made up of Roberta Cutajar and Svetlana Ciantar lost against France (1-4), Israel (1-4) and against Germany (0-4) in best of seven frames on Wednesday.

The European Snooker Team Championships are being organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association together with the European Billiards and Snooker Association.
