Malta again participated in the 14th edition of the Mediterranean Cup in Larnaca, an annual event organised by the Cyprus Wrestling Federation.

This international tournament is an annual fixture on the Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation’s calendar. In all seven countries took part.

The Maltese team, under the direction of national coach Jesmond Giordimaina, was made up of Adam Vella (60kg), David Zammit (66kg), Andrea Saliba (74kg) and Aidan Buhagiar (120kg). Also included in the contingent was Abraham Vassallo who, besides helping Giordimaina, took up refereeing and is looking forward to obtain his international licence.

Although not winning any medals, the Maltese wrestlers managed to gather enough points to place third in the team classification. The tournament was won by Greece while home team Cyprus placed second.

Bulgaria, Austria, Germany and Switzerland ended behind Malta.
