St Andrew’s registered their fourth victory of the season beating Pieta with a second half goal in a low profile match. Thanks to this victory St Andrew’s have now moved over Pieta and Dingli in the lower part of the table.

The match never reached high standards, boring at times. The Saints deserved their victory as they were more determined than their opponents, who were pathetic. The winner was scored by one of the Saints’ youngsters, 16-year old Luke Cesareo, who unfortunately had to be substituted later in the game.

In a scrappy first half St Andrew’s had more of the ball but nothing to show at the interval. Faisal Anakua had the first attempt at goal well saved by Miguel Montfort.

Pieta hit back with a Sheldon Grech feekick well saved by Carandente.

The Saints had other efforts by Patrick Briscoe White and Kurt Coleiro completely off target. On 28 minutes Robson Luiz Bandeira pounced on a defensive lapse but his lob went slightly over the bar.

In the Saints’ last attempt of the first half Cesareo anticipated Pieta goalkeeper Montfort, but his lob went over the bar.

The second half started on a promising note with shots from Kurt Coleiro for St Andrew’s and Refalo for Pieta. On 57 minutes Glen Fenech fired a good shot that was well saved by Montfort. From the resultant corner William Camilleri’s shot on the turn missed the target.

Two minutes later St Andrew’s took the lead when Luke Cesareo beat Montfort from an acute angle. Pieta had no answer to this and their attempts never really worried goalkeeper Carandente.

Near the end of the match the Saints could have doubled the score when substitute Jon Paul Calleja shot slightly over the bar when well placed.
