Cricket: Marsa CC In friendly series against Milan CC

Over the past weekend starting with a 20-over game, the Marsa C.C took on returning team Milan C.C.

On Friday the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bat. A fantastic innings from Andy Naudi worth 48 runs including three fours and two sixes propelled the home team to a fine score of 146 runs from the 20 overs. Nowell Khosla (30) and Joy Ghoseroy (26) also contributed. For Milan Sunil was the top wicket taker with two.

In reply Milan were coasting to a victory with Sonu scoring 60 runs, Bhupi 28 runs and Sunil 21 runs. Only needing 27 runs from 24 balls with eight wickets in hand it looked over for the Marsa team.

Mike Caruana had other ideas put a stop to the runs and took four wickets in his last two overs which led to the Marsa team winning by 12 runs.

On Saturday the Milan team batted first and this time a fine innings of 71 runs from Bhupi helped his side to a total of 191 runs. Jonathan scored 24, while Gautam and Sunil both scored 19 each. For Marsa Andy Lenard and Bikram Arora were the main wicket takers with two each.

In reply only John Grima with 60 runs, 17 runs from Dave Borg and a late 22 runs from Ronnie Sacco were the only formidable scores in the run chase.

The Marsa team only mustered 147 runs. Sonu was the main wicket taker for Milan while Sunil took two.

The final game on Sunday again had the Milan team batting first. This time Sonu made 59 runs, Vicky 35, Gautam 25 and Ross Gower 16 runs in an impressive and overwhelming score of 200 runs in the 35 over game. For Marsa Joy Ghoseroy was the main wicket taker with two. Ian Pendlebury had to settle with only one wicket after the previous week had completed a hat trick.

In reply the Marsa team only managed 151 runs with Joy Ghoseroy making 46 runs, Jim Heasman 31 and Andy Naudi 29. For Milan Yogesh was the main wicket taker with two.

Tomorrow the coaching session will be held at The Point, Sliema and all are welcome to go and try.
