I refer to the article entitled “Australian plan for Maltese salute to 270 fallen Anzacs” (TMIS, 3 April) in which the assistance being given to our fund-raising effort by a committee created in South Australia was mentioned.
We applaud the efforts of the said committee, which, together with other Maltese associations and also individuals in the various states of Australia, as well as local associations and individuals connected with Australia, helped us with their donations during our two-year efforts to raise enough funds.
While we do not confirm the amounts mentioned, we are grateful for every donation irrespective of the amount contributed.
The Maltese government will be helping us in our venture as well.
The combined efforts enabled us to forge ahead with our project and we take this opportunity to announce that work on the ANZAC Memorial is due to start in the immediate future.
It is hoped that the ANZAC Memorial of Malta will be visited not only by Australians, but also by the Australian Maltese paying a visit to their country of birth.
Our appreciation and thanks to all who contributed to our fund-raising.
