Żminijietna – Voice of the Left supports the stand taken by GWU Youths, the Forum Żgħażagħ Laburisti, Moviment Liberali and Move which appealed to the House of Representatives to allow the 2,800 new voters to cast their vote in the forthcoming divorce referendum. These 2,800 new voters, who are eligible to vote in this referendum are being denied this right.
Żminijietna – Voice of the Left which is in favour of divorce and is campaigning for a yes vote in the forthcoming referendum on divorce, sees this action taken by the local authorities as undemocratic.
Alternattiva Demokratika and the Labour Party are also appealing for justice to be done with the 2,800 voters. We believe that the Members of Parliament should present a motion in the House calling for the inclusion of these new voters.
We also appeal to the Electoral Commission to take the necessary steps so that these voters will not be denied of their democratic rights. The electoral commission should adhere to the new Electoral Registry that will be published this month.
