The ASA National Youth Team participated in the European Junior Water Polo Championships (Men) held between the 7th and 10th April 2011 in Kiev, Ukraine. The championships are organized by the LEN every two years and participating athletes may be from 15 to 17 years old.
The draws for this competition were held last January and Malta competed in Qualification Group D together with host country Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic and Israel.
In their opening match, Malta lost narrowly to Israel 7-8 with the Malta scorers being Michael Paris, Aleandro Mifsud, Luke Caruana and Dino Zammit (4)
In their second match, Malta lost heavily (8-30) against the strong REussia side. Malta’s goals were scored by Michael Paris, Keith Galea (2), Luke Caruana (4) and Dino Zammit
In their next match, Malta lost 6-14 against Ukraine with the scorers being Nicholas Portelli (2), Luke Caruana and Dino Zammit (2)
The young Maltese team, however, finished their commitments on a top note when they beat the Czech Republic side 15-5 in their final encounter.
In this last match, the Malta scorers were Dino Zammit 5, Nicholas Portelli 3, Luke Caruana 2, Marc Grech 2, Kyle Debattista, Aleandro Mifsud and Michael Paris one each.
ASA national junior coach Karl Izzo and his assistant Anthony Farrugia had chosen the following squad of 13 players to form part of the Malta team for these championships:

The Maltese contingent was led by ASA vice president (Waterpolo) Alan Bonello who was joined by national junior coach Karl Izzo, his assistant Anthony Farrugia and physiotherapist Pierre Borg.
