Living History

Malta Independent Thursday, 14 April 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

With reference to the article in The Malta Independent (Tuesday 12 April) regarding the swastika flag in Mosta, can you identify the difference between showing the swastika flag in a living history reenactment and showing it in a motion picture?

I have seen swastika flags in hundreds of films about World War II. The swastika in Mosta was for the use of a reenactment, not for any other purpose and the Luftwaffe uniforms were there to represent the German airmen who attacked the Rotunda on that day of April of 1942.

Regarding the ban of German uniforms in other countries I would like to point out that last October I happened to be in Duxford airfield near Cambridge in the UK for the autumn air show and men in German Luftwaffe uniforms were present amongst the crowd and posing for photographers.
