Section A

Mdina K-Qrendi 4-1

The first period was a balanced affair with Mdina having the first opportunities, going close through Cachel Vella and Peter Grima.

However it was Qrendi who opened the score after 25 minutes through a beautiful goal scored by Chris Farrugia following a run from the midfield sector.

Seven minutes later Mdina were back on level terms through a shot by Cachel Vella following a pass by Peter Grima and in the 39th minute they even took the lead through a penalty given for a foul on Cachel Vella and duly converted by the same player.

In added time Mdina made it 3-1 as a pass by Robert Southward was finished off by Clint Scerri. After the break Mdina controlled the match in the midfield sector but they still created a number of goal scoring opportunities.

They managed to score a fourth goal in the 79th minute as Cachel Vella notched his hat-trick from a pass by Steve Pecorella.

In the 80th minute Qrendi’s veteran player Johan Scicluna was sent-off for unwarranted comments and six minutes from time Qrendi ended up with nine players as Arnold Grech was shown a straight red card for retaliation.

This result means that Qrendi will need to re-apply next season to take part in the Third Division.

Section B

Kirkop U- Gozo FC 5-1

Kirkop United dictated the run of play during the first-half and early on efforts by Orianski Buhagiar and Ronald Spina just missed the target.

Then a shot by Josef Attard was saved by Victor Agius and just before the break a low shot by Ronald Spina was again saved by the Gozitan keeper.

Just four minutes after the restart, Kirkop kicked the ball out of play since a Gozitan player was injured and from the resultant thrown-in taken by the Gozitans, the Gozo striker passed the ball to the Kirkop keeper was, however, caught napping and the ball finished at the back of the net.

Immediately the Gozitans showed their fair play as they allowed Kirkop’s striker to go through to get the equaliser. One should commend the Gozitans’ sporting gesture.

In the 60th minute Kirkop took the lead through Orianski Buhagiar following a good move by Josef Attard and on 66 minutes Ronald Spina made it 3-1.

Kirkop continued to domnate wuith substitute Leonard Zammit scoring a beautiful goal in the 73rd minute through an excellent volley and two minutes later Josef Attard added a fifth goal for the promoted tea.

Late in the match the Gozitans had an Alex Tramboo effort which was cleared off the goal line.

Referee: Emanuel Grech.
