The first-half was a balanced affair with Attard however having the best opportunities.

After seven minutes Siggiewi were close through Jason Camilleri with Attard’s immediate reply producing an attempt by Bydasser Sammut which just missed the target.

In the 11th minute Attard took the lead as Kayne Said managed to beat the Siggiewi keeper with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Siggiewi reacted and efforts by Josef Vassallo and Kim Buhagiar just missed the target with Attard wasting a clear gol scoring opportunity in the 19th minute with Darren Galea shooting just high over the bar when all alone in front of goal.

Attard were then again close through efforts by Kurt Zahra and six minutes before the break Attard were denied by Vella off a headed attempt by Bydasser Sammut.

At the other end Siggiewi were very close to getting the equaliser through Jason Camilleri and Harun Ahmed Muhamed.

After the change of ends Attard held the initiative earl;y on and were close through a long-range free-kick taken by Dunstan Zarb which was saved by Vella and an attempt by Erjon Beu which ended just over the bar.

In the 59th minute Attard hit the post from a Darren Galea corner-kick and from the rebound Bydasser Sammut’s header again hit the woodwork.

However in the 64th minute Siggiewi drew level through Roderick Farrugia’s close-range shot from a free-kick taken by Jason Camilleri and two minutes later the latter shot at goal but was denied by Zarb.

Attard replied through Erjon Beu who shot just wide off the far post as Siggiewi came back through a crosshot by Josef Vassallo with Zarb saving with difficulty.

In the 79th minute Siggiewi got the all-important goal through Jason Camilleri following a persistent personal effort with Attard doing all the pressure in the final minutes but in a counter-attack Siggiewi missed a sitter througfh Harun Ahmed Muhamed.

Siggiewi are now joint leaders with StVenera Lightnings as Attard have to fight it out for the fourth place in a final direct encounter against Mdina Knights.

Gudja-Marsascala 2-0

Marsascala were very close early on as a close-range shot by Daniel Barreno Alba was saved by Matthew Xerxen but on 11 minutes Gudja took the lead with Trevor Thomas finishing off a good move by Elton Bugeja.

They were then again close through Edmond Thornton as Marsascala replied thjrough a shot by Daniel Barreno Alba whoch finished just wide and an attempt by Matthew Gauci whochj was saved with difficulty by the Gudja keeper.

At the other end Gudja missed a clear opportunity through Trevor Thomas and in the 39th minute they were denied by Renald Attard off a shot by Thornton. In added time Marsascala were very close as a point-blank shot by Matthew Gauci was saved by Xerxen.

After the break the match was a very balanced affair with Gudja going close in the 52nd minute as a shot by Elvin Gauci was saved with difficulty by Renald Attard.

Two minutes later Marsaskala were denied by Xerxen off a free-kick taken by Christian Bordieri and in the 68th minute Gudja’s striker Edmond Thornton shot just wide.

Two minutes later Gudja were denied by Renald Attard off a close-range conclusion by Trevor Thomas and in the 75th minute Gudja increased their lead through Trevor Thomas’ second goal after Renald Attard had saved partially off an effort by Aaron Guazzo.

Marsascala protested since they sustained that the assistant referee had signaled an offside position and their defenders had consequently stopped, awaiting the referee’s decision who however allowed play to go on as he had a different opinion from that of his assistant.

Late in the match Gudja were again close on a couple of occasions.
