Malta Independent Wednesday, 20 April 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Malta Volleyball Academy in conjunction with the University of Malta’s Institute of Physical Education and Sport, initiated its activities when it held the first session of a Youth Coaching Course.

This is the first time that the MVA is organising a course aimed specifically at coaching young players and, following the introduction of the U-13 league, is another step in implementing its “Investment in Youth” policy.

This Level 1 course is based on a series of three lectures and a theoretical and practical exam. The opening session was introduced by the MVA president Branko Vlahovic, right, who explained that the aim of the Academy is to provide a platform for the overall improvement of the game in Malta.

Vlahovic was very happy to see that the course attracted more than 25 participants who have a different involvement in the game and included existing coaches, physical education teachers, physical education students, students attending sports courses, established players and even a 16 -year-old player.

Following Vlhovic’s introduction, Andrew Decelis, Director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport, gave a lecture on Coaching Philosophy and Objectives. This was followed up by a practical session on Elementary Volleyball Techniques and their implementation given by Malta’s national coach Srdjan Veckov.

Interested persons who wish to participate in the forthcoming two sessions can apply through the MVA website www.maltavolleyball.org .
