The final result is a clear indication that Floriana were the better outfit during the game, creating much more occasions of scoring than St Patrick.
Following this game Floriana are in 7th position on 31 points from 20 games while St Patrick are in penultimate position on 10 points, also from 20 games.
Floriana applied the early pressure. Connor Borg was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Sean Cipriott, Luke Micallef failed to connect with the ball inside the area.
Darren Baldacchino was then fouled on the right flank and Matthew Bajada missed the far post from the free kick. After Bajada was fouled on the right flank, from Baldacchino’s free kick, Josiah Vella failed to get his head to the ball inside the area to apply the killer touch.
In the first action by St Patrick, Chris Bonnici served Steve Micallef on the right flank and Greens keeper Luke Falzon neutralised the ball from his cross.
At the other end, Glenn Tabone was served with a long drop kick by Falzon on the right flank but his cross was neutralized by St Patrick keeper Daniel Farrugia.
Latyer, the goalie saved a shot from inside the area by Borg after a Mauro Sultana cross from the left flank and Luke Micallef served Borg on the right flank who then crossed to Juan Corbolan but he drove slightly out from outside the area.
St Patrick then won a free kick on the right flank and Falzon saved the rising shot by Chris Bonnici.
In the 19th minute Floriana opened the score when Baldacchino served Tabone in the area and after advancing scored with a low shot past St Patrick keeper Daniel Farrugia. The latter was injured in the action and had to substituted by Daniel Meli.
Before the break, Corbolan served Baldacchino in the area and Meli denied him with a diving save to a corner while Micallef served Borg on the right flank and Meli neutralised the ball from his cross.
Eight minutes after the restart, Tabone should have doubled for Floriana but he drove over the bar from inside the area with only Meli to beat after a Corbolan perfect through ball.
St Patrick equalised in the 41st minute when they won a free kick on the left flank which was taken by Justin Camilleri and Sultana handled the ball inside the area. Shalon Diacono converted the resultant penalty.
The score became 2-1 in the 51st minute when Micallef served Sultana with a through ball on the left flank and after his cross Chris Bonnici handled the ball in the area and Baldacchino made no mistake from the resultant penalty.
Meli denied the Greens in two consecutive occasions: first he saved a free kick in two attempts by Bajada and then he saved a shot from inside the area by the same player.
Between the 67th and 69th minute Floriana scored two further goals.
A free kick by Baldacchino created havoc in the area and Dixon Vella, who had entered as a substitute two minutes earlier, scored with a hard rising shot. Then he scored again from inside the area after a Sultana cross from the left flank.
