Malta Independent Sunday, 24 April 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Ira Losco and her band will be performing a full-blown concert for children from schools all over Malta at the MFCC, Ta Qali on Friday 6 May 2011. This was announced at a press conference on Wednesday. The Concert entitled “Music 4 Life” has been Ira Losco’s dream project ever since she embarked on her voluntary anti-bullying school tour back in 2002.   Lately, Ira Losco participated in talks in Schools, which are being organized to promote friendships and challenges which teens might face – with different types of bullying becoming a very common obstacle. She encouraged students not to accept any such actions, and to use their talents to show their strengths and abilities.

“Music 4 Life” is going to be a professional one hour long concert, where students will also have the opportunity to see what goes on before a Live concert on a big screen. “ There are many aspects of this event I wanted to include.” said a determined Ira Losco. “Primarily to promote an anti bullying message and bring different children from different schools under the same roof. Secondly I wanted to emphasize the importance of Live music as well as offer the chance to some children to play live in front of a big audience whilst experiencing a professional stage set up  . Last but not least to outline the importance of solidarity with the ones in need. In this case, children diagnosed with Cancer, where donations will be pledged to Puttinu Cares.” she added.

All Forms 2 and 3’s Public, Private and Church schools have been invited to join in this initiative to draw children closer to music.  Preparations are in full swing and a search for a band, singer and/or musician who will be performing just before Ira takes the stage, has commenced. All students who wish to participate in this selection should forward a video clip or mp3 to their Head of School, who will in turn nominate them and send the material to the central organising committee. Some students are also going to have the opportunity to report the event acting as journalists for the day. The concert will start at 10.30am and will be a free event for every school deciding to attend.

“Vodafone Malta truly believe that music is a universal language that knows no boundaries and it is the ideal medium to pass on educational messages to our children. This year we have invested heavily in music to support both local and foreign acts. Ira Losco is one of the local artists we have been supporting for years because we believe in her talent and enthusiasm for life. She’s young, talented, versatile and close to her fans. We believe that she truly encapsulates what Vodafone is all about. Moreover, we’re really glad to be supporting an anti-bullying campaign and we want children to be aware of bullying and its consequences. Corporate responsibility is a very important aspect of the work we do and we believe that educating our future generation is one of our responsibilities as a commercial entity. We can assure everyone of Vodafone’s commitment in supporting events that will invest in our children’s education and well-being,” said Maria Vella Galea, Brand Manager at Vodafone Malta.

“This is probably one of the most challenging events we’ve ever organised considering the many restrictions due to the nature of the event. However when Ira conveyed her idea I was positive we would make it happen. I ‘d like to thank all the sponsors, the working group from the education department and all the people involved to make this happen.” added Howard Keith from Jagged House.  Miguel DeBono , Brand manager of Cappy Juices, outlined the importance of music and culture amongst our youths . He also said “ This is a unique event with all the right ingredients for us to be part of. Cappy is committed to being a responsible global citizen and promotes sustainable agriculture, which is based on the idea that we should meet the nutritional needs of the present without compromising opportunities for future generations.”

“It is our first time to be working closely with Ira Losco - and in being an honor to be doing so, I am sure it won’t be the last. Skechers is an American shoe brand that is pushing for CSR programs through sponsorship and funding for underprivileged youth through the Skechers Foundation in the USA. In keeping with the brand’s philosophy, Eurosport and Skechers are more than happy to do the same here in Malta and greatly look forward to not just seeing a successful show, but also success in delivering the important message of this event to all the students. “ concluded Cristina Peresso, managing Director of Michele Peresso Group.

Most of the concert’s expenses have been covered by the sponsors without which such a project would have been impossible to organise. This is a completely non-profitable event where all donations will go directly to Puttinu Cares.  The venue, lighting and sound have been provided by MFCC,  Nexos and Best Team Audio respectively. The event is supported by Vodafone, Skechers from Eurosport and Cappy Juices.
