Iklin vs FDL 0-3

Fleur de Lys ended their commitments for this year with a win over Iklin.

The game, however, was a good picture of FDL’s uneventful year as they showed spells of very good volleyball but also a lack of concentration and consistency which in some cases lost them games which should have been their’s.

Sunday’s game galvaised FDL in the 4th place with 5 wins and 5 losses. Iklin will now play out their last game against Mgarr, where they will be doing their best to win the last match and stay clear from the wooden spoon position.

Ladies Division 2

Flyers Depiro 2 vs Paola U-18 3-1

(27-25,25-20,21-25,25-14)

Flyers Depiro 2 got the better of Paola’s U’18 team in a hard fought match to win the Ladies second division.

Missing the services of Monique Fava, setter Rachel Caruana, and sisters Stephanie and Kim Grech, and with a number of players out of position, Flyers found it difficult to settle down and struggled to beat an organised Poala side.

It was only after losing the third set that Flyers seemed to find their best possible rotation and went on to win the game and the right to play in next year’s First Division.

Southend 2, who played just before Flyers, had kept their hopes of forcing a decider by beating B’Kara 3-1 in another good match (25-23; 20-25; 25-19; 25-17) and hoping for Flyers to slip-up.

Their win was however only good enough to earn them second place.
