Strait Street Exhibition

Malta Independent Wednesday, 27 April 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

An art exhibition is open for viewing by the public at The Splendid, 74 Strait Street, Valletta, as part of a European project to launch cultural incubators in six UNESCO World Heritage Cities. Sixteen artists are taking part, representing some of the best and young upcoming talent.

The participating artists include Anna Grima, Paul Mizzi, Romina Delia, Julian Mallia, Pierre Portelli, Bertrand Fava, Francesca Schembri, Dorian Black, Laura Vasile-Peischl, Danjeli Schembri, Seana Willis-Yuste, Stephen Micallef, Martina Eminyan Vassallo and James Micallef Grimaud.

The event is being organised by the Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit (FTZ), a regional development agency based at the University of Malta. FTZ is the Maltese partner in the project called ‘Incubators for Cultural Enterprises’, which is funded mainly through the MED Territorial Cooperation programme.

The Strada Stretta Cultural Incubator will assist artists and cultural enterprises and lead to the setting up of the first Creative Cluster for Malta, in line with the national plan for the creative industries. The government is supporting FTZ in its ambitious project to regenerate this colourful but neglected street and breathe back life into the former vibrant, dynamic quarter. The exhibition is open to the public daily between 10am and 1pm and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 5 and 9pm.

Anyone wishing to contribute to future initiatives to revive the street should get in touch with FTZ by emailing to [email protected], or calling on 2340-2189.
