Sliema Nursery officials have announced that after initial contacts with Steve Gregory and his subsequent visit last February during the Carnival football tournament organised at the Nursery’s premises, it was decided to formalise and develop a plan so that the technical cooperation between the two football schools will be of practical benefit to both organisations.
To put in motion this practical cooperation Gregory, Recruitment Officer, and Leroy Moore, Academy coach, were guests of the Sliema Nursery recently to participate in various activities, namely
Participate in training sessions off all age groups
Identify potential talented future footballers
Visit to schools to promote ‘community football’
Participate in a football event held at Tigne Point Piazza to promote the services and facilities of the Sliema Nursery.
Technical ‘Instructional Meeting’ for the Sliema Nursery coaches
To facilitate the monitoring by Leicester Acedemy, the Sliema Nursery will start an ‘elite training scheme’ for the more talented players with the possibility for these young footballers to train at the Leicester Academy and participate in trials.
The training sessions for this scheme will be conducted by Sliema Nursery head coach Claude Chetcuti and Brian Spiteri, both ‘A’ UEFA licensed coaches and to view the high standards demanded by the Leicester City Academy, they will both be visiting the Leicester Academy.
A summer football training camp for the Sliema Nursery Under 12 group is also going to be held at Leicester in July.
The above are some of the main initial activities that will be held between the two organisations but this cooperation is mainly intended for the benefit of the long plan development of talented young footballers attending the Sliema Nursery as not only they will be guided by the Sliema Nursery’s own qualified staff but also monitored by Leicester Academy’s experienced professionals.
The Sliema Nursery administration is confident that the investment in this practical technical cooperation will be of benefit to the young footballers attending the Nursery and to the improvement of Maltese football in general.
