Mellieha Athletic Club will be organising the The Shoppers Discount Supermarket road races on Sunday, 1 May.

As in past years, the races are expected to attract a significant number of runners; both established ones as well as newcomers to the sport.

In all, there will be four events held on the day; namely, a 10Km road race, a 10Km walk, a 2Km road race and a 1 Km fun run.

Over the past recent years, the club has experienced an ever increasing participation in the Walk event which goes on to show that a healthy exercising mentality is gradually creeping into the local culture.

The 10Km road race and walk routes have remained the same as last year.

The start line will be right in front The Shoppers Discount Supermarket and finishing off at Mellieha Square.

Last year’s 10Km race was won by Jonathan Balzan of St Patrick’s AC in 32 minutes 51 seconds, followed by two Mellieha AC runners Charles Cilia in 33:19 and Johann Galea in 35:22. Carol Walsh won the Ladies event in 38 minutes 53 seconds, in front of British girl Britney Barnet and Mellieha AC runner Marthese Mercieca in 44:06 and 44:12 respectively.

The Mellieha AC Committee thanked The Shoppers Discount Supermarket and all other sponsors for their continuous support and all those involved in the organisation of the said events.
