The sun was shining and children from all over Malta were bubbling with enthusiasm as they burned their energy levels playing their hearts out during last week’s Rugby World Cup tournament at Marsa.
The MRFU, in conjunction with GasanMamo Insurance staged secondary school Touch Rugby and primary school Tag Rugby tournaments under the watchful eye of national coach, Damian Neill, MRFU club coaches and enthusiastic PE teachers from schools.
Approximately 400 boys and girls from schools including Mqabba, Birzebbugia, Zabbar, Vittoriosa, Marsascala, Zebbug and Hamrun, among others, enjoyed the competition that also featured development contact sessions allowing children to get a feel for the adult game.
The joy on the children’s faces was evident with girls making as much impact as boys and leaving rugby officials in no doubt that a great deal of rugby talent is awakening in Malta.
Each child received a special certificate of participation from GasanMamo Insurance and it is anticipated that some of them will get the chance to show off their talents at a special exhibition game during half time at the Malta vs Croatia match at Hibernians Stadium on 30 April.
