Mqabba terminated their commitments this season with an easy victory over a de-motivated Dingli side in yesterday’s last match of the season.
Mqabba supporters turned in good numbers to celebrate their side’s promotion to the Premier League. Mqabba dominated the match from start to finish with Brazilian Mazitelli playing a good match, hoping to be confirmed for a Premier experience next season.
Dingli created the first chance of a slow pace game, when a Princewill Okachi effort hit the side netting. On twelve minutes Mqabba took the lead when John Paul Muscat failed to connect to a Shaun Magro freekick, but Thiago Mazitelli was on hand to hammer low into the net past a helpless Jeffrey Farrugia.
Mqabba pushed forward for more goals but the Dingli defence was always on the alert to block Jon Paul Muscat and Mazitelli’s initiatives. On 35 minutes however Mqabba managed to double the score with a gem of a goal scored by Mazitelli who fired a missile from more than 30 meters with the ball rocketing in the far corner of the net.
For the second period Mqabba introduced reserve goalkeeper Kevin Ellul for the experienced Kris Calleja. On 53 minutes Thiago Mazitelli received a long ball from defence and fired low but goalkeeper Farrugia dived to save. Mazitelli missed an easy chance some minutes later when he failed to control in front of goal.
On 75 minutes Mqabba were awarded a penalty when John Paul Muscat was pushed inside the area by defender Ryan Sammut, and from the resultant penalty the same John Paul Muscat made no mistake to seal the issue for Mqabba.
Eight minutes from time Dingli Swallows pulled one back when a Leontiev Konda deflected freekick deceived goalkeeper Ellul with the ball finishing at the back of the net.
