Hands Off St Anne’s garden

Malta Independent Tuesday, 3 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

This is St Anne’s public garden (pictured above), the only garden of its kind in Marsascala.

Recently it fell in the hands of the Marsascala local council through land devolution signed with the Lands Department.

Residents, especially the ones living around the garden, are not aware what is in store for them.

Rumours have it that the Marsascala local council, together with the private sector, are planning to turn this recreational park into a large underground car park and ground level multi-shopping arcade.

The proposed plans are secretly being circulated to interested persons. This is bound to cause uproar in the entire community of Marsascala for they would be against such exploitation of this unique, peaceful garden situated undisturbed next to Saint Anne’s parish church.

No doubt this will increase further the traffic problem, noise and contamination of the area with exhaust fumes in the heart of Marsascala. All this is being done behind the residents’ back for this council is plagued with the lack of consultation most endeared by the European Commission.
