Annulment Is church word for divorce

Malta Independent Thursday, 5 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

It has been written that “It has been proved over and over again that divorce is not the solution to marriage problems”- annulment is. What a bunch of crocodile tears. Annulment and divorce both dissolve the marriage and annulment goes even further, it wipes out the previous marriage as if it never existed. What happens to “What God put together, let no man put asunder?”

Maybe the exception for annulment is written in fine prints so most of us cannot see it. I have been married for 48 years and thank God never needed divorce, but I cannot ever stop anyone else from getting one if they ever need to. But there are some who are trying to deprive those who experience a failed marriage to start a new chapter.

Sometimes marriages, catholic or otherwise, fail and that is why the Church uses annulment. It is the church word for divorce. The Church seems to profit on such annulments and if divorce is available the Church tends to lose a lot of money.
