Marsascala Council replies

Malta Independent Thursday, 5 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Please refer to contribution by Mr Charles Gauci (TMID, 3 May).

Mr Gauci’s contribution is full of half-truths, lies and damned lies. The Marsascala Local Council rebuts his unfounded allegation that it is planning to construct a shopping arcade in place of St Anne’s Gardens. It has never entered into any negotations, neither openly nor secretly with any “interested persons”. It is our policy that in all circumstances, before introducing any projects into our locality, to consult the residents and then act according to their wishes and opinions. It is one of our proud records that we have never done anything affecting the residents behind their backs.

The local council not only issues a regular magazine to keep the residents informed and abreast of all that is taking place, but also, the mayor’s office is accessible daily, both in the mornings and afternoons, to all residents who feel that they have suggestions to make or complaints to present.

That is why I have concluded that Mr Gauci’s allegations are nothing but a sinister part of a mud-slinging campaign of an isolated clique whose only aim is to do harm to Marsascala and its local council. This clique persists in thinking that it speaks in the name of ‘the entire community’ which actually detests it.

Mario Calleja

Mayor, Marsaskala
