Over the coming weekend, the Malta Racing Club will be having quite a number of events all happening between tomorrow and Sunday, both locally and abroad.
On the international scene two representatives will be wearing the Maltese colours in two different events, one held at the Anfa racetrack in Morocco, and the other at the famous Agnano racetrack in Naples, Italy.
The two races are legs of the 2011 Meditteranean Horse Racing Union Championship.
Ramon Grima will be the Maltese jockey in Casablanca, a race that will be held tomorrow at 2pm.
Grima is one of the best jockeys in Malta, having twice won the Mediterranean Derby, the most prestigious Flat Race in the Maltese horse racing calendar, on one of the crowd favourites ‘Just the Best’.
Charlo Debono will be the Maltese driver at Agnano, during the same race meeting as the popular Lotteria di Agnano race.
The trot race in Agnano is the second leg of the Mediterranean Horse Racing Union Championship, in which Malta is the 2010 holder and leader in 2011 after winning the first leg held in Malta on 31 March.
For this race seven drivers will be participating representing France, Italy, Malta, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine. The race will start at 4.05pm on Sunday.
In Malta at the Marsa race track, local enthusiasts will have a double meeting with an international Ladies race being held at tomorrow’s evening meeting, where Maltese, Swedish, Finish and Norwegian ladies drivers will be participating in this race.
Tomorrow’s meeting will also host what looks like one of the best races of the season. The start list includes three Tazza l-Kbira winners, James De L’Iton, In Vitro Du Bourg and Kakisis, plus Arnie Sensation and Joker de Choisel, winners of various other trophies in the last years.
The first race tomorrow starts at 7pm, with the Sunday meeting, holding another Premier Class Race and three Gold Class races, starts at 2pm.
