Valletta Want to finish campaign on high note

Malta Independent Saturday, 7 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Valletta FC and Tarxien Rainbows will bring an end to this season’s Premier League campaign as they play the final league match of the season on City’s Celebration Day.

Valletta will be looking in earnest to conclude the season on a high with their main intent being that of maintaining their unbeaten record.

It should not be difficult for the new champions who have shown consistency in their results throughout the whole season.

Valletta will not be expected to forfeit any points from today’s encounter, even if the Rainbows will be looking at it from a different angle.

The Rainbow, in fact, will be meeting Valletta all over again next week in an FA Trophy semifinal and although considered as outsiders, they will also relish the chance to land their first major trophy in Maltese football.

In that sense, today’s match will be a dress rehearsal for them and they will not be expected to throw in the towel so easily.

On the other hand, and as everyone knows, Valletta want to celebrate their championship title in style. Today whatever the result, they will be presented with the Bank of Valletta Cup and from then on, it will be celebrations, celebrations and more celebrations next week.

In actual fact, the celebrations have already started and this morning, a club delegation will visit Puttinu Cares to offer a donation. At 1pm there will be a carcade to Ta’ Qali where at 2pm there will be an entertainment programme lasting till a few minutes before the start of the final match against Tarxien (4pm).

The celebrations in Republic Street, Valletta should start around 7.30pm.
