Liverpool Win comfortably

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

England’s Liverpool registered a comfortable win yesterday beating Fulham 5-2 to maintain their interest in a berth in next season’s Champions League via the fourth place in the English Premier League.

Liverpool have now moved to fifth place on 58 points, four below fourth placed Manchester City and two ahead of Tottenham.

But City and Tottenham have a match in hand (between them) which they are playing this evening.

Goals from Rodriguez (2) and Kuyt gave Liverpool a comfortable 3-0 first half cushion.

Dembele’s goal on the changeover gave some hope for Fulham but other goals from Rodriguez and Suarez put Liverpool in command.

Near the end, Sidwell pulled back another one for the home side but it was certainly not enough.

Juventus held to a draw

In Italy, Juventus were dealt a big setback to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Chievo.

Juve led through Del Piero (penalty) and Matri goals, but Chievo hit back with two goals in one minute through Uribe and Sardo.

Juve now have 57 points, five below fourth placed Udinese with just two more matches to go. Just above them, on 60 points, are the two Roman clubs, Lazio and Roma.
