Wages In Malta always decline the year after an election

Malta Independent Friday, 13 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

I refer to the report in yesterday’s TMID edition. Hardly a coincidence. Taxes and NI go up immediately after an election to be compensated for by cost of living increases or collective agreements during the year so that the year after the decrease is nullified (note that the example given was in the private manufacturing sector). It just goes to show how the timing of the introduction of these taxes or contribution increases are not related in any way to national interest or criticality of the situation but by purely political, electoral or partisan considerations.
