In a yet another five-set match between the two clubs, Paola Hibs sustained Depiro Flyers strong challenge to win the deciding match of this season and so retain the title for the eighth consecutive time. In doing so, Paola once again made a clean sweep of all the honours this season winning the league, knock out and super cup.

As in the other encounters between the two teams this season, Depiro Flyers started the match aggressively, but once Paola started putting pressure on them through some good serving and well placed attacks, the first set went quickly in their favour with a convincing scoreline.

In the second set, Flyers managed to put Paola in some difficulty with their service. The service receivers of Paola found some difficulty to pass the ball to the setter and so Paola could not produce their customary hard attacks. Depiro took full advantage of this situation and won the second set.

In the third set Paola regained their composure in defence and service reception and once again built good attacks that Flyers found difficult to deal with. Paola quickly concluded the set in their favour for a 2-1 lead. The fourth set started off quite balanced with a very close scoreline between the two teams. However, Flyers showed a never say die attitude and managed to clinch the set to level the set score to 2-2.

In the fifth set, Paola were very concentrated and were always in the lead. Their experienced spikers fed by the young setter Roxette Caruana, never gave Flyers any chance and the set and game went in Paola’s favour for them to become the local champions once again.
