MOC Athletes on school visits programme

In view of Malta’s participation in Liechtenstein for the 14th edition of the Games of Small States of Europe, athletes forming part of the Maltese Olympic Committee as already experienced prior to the Cyprus 2009 GSSE and Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, have scheduled a number of school visits coordinated by MOC Olympic Academy Director and assistant chef-de-mission for Liechtenstein GSSE, Adele Muscat.

The first in the series of school visits was held on 12 May at San Anton School, with the presence of judokas Marcon Bezzina and Joanne Camilleri, athletes Diane Borg and Andy Grech together with athletics’ coach Mario Micallef.

Also present young athletes selected to form part of MOC contingent for COJI Games in Palermo, Sicily, namely Edward Fleri Soler (sailing), Robin Zammit (athletics) and Pia Grech (swimming).

The second in the list was held on 16 May at St Dorothy’s Convent with the participation of swimmer Nikki Muscat, squash player Johanna Rizzo and athlete Neil Brimmer and twin sisters Martina and Francesca Xuereb.

Guided by MOC Media Director Charles Camenzuli, there is vivid interaction between students and the athletes as such visits are supported by promotional video clips and other audio visual support.

Other school visits are scheduled as follows: Today - Stella Maris College, Gzira - 8.45 am -10am; 24 May – St Edward’s College, Cottonera - 2pm - 3pm 25 May - Tal-Handaq Secondary school – 11am - noon
