Sliema W 4
Sliema had an easy task against Melita who are relegated to Section B. They managed to score four goals without any reply from the Amateurs. The Blues were the better outfit during both periods.
They went straight on the offensive and mounted two actions. Dale Micallef served Paolo Dandolo in the area and Melita keeper Nicky Mizzi denied him with a diving save to a corner which was well-taken by Gabriel Aquilina and Dandolo headed slightly out. Then Mizzi saved a free kick by Jesmar Degabriele.
Melita reacted and Isaac Curmi dribbled past an opponent, served Jeremy Mousu in the area and Sliema keeper Keane Cutajar foiled him with a timely sortie.
Sliema forged ahead in the 15th minute when Gabriel Aquilina served Karl Aquilina with a through ball on the left flank and he scored with a lobbed ball from 30 metres.
The Blues kept pressing. Gabriel Aquilina served Justin Pisani with a through ball, the latter returned the compliment to Dandolo in the area and Mizzi saved his shot to a corner. Jan Muscat then missed the upright with a header from inside the area after a Gabriel Aquilina through ball.
The score became 2-0 in the 27th minute when Karl Aquilina served Pisani in the area who scored with a low shot.
Sliema added two further goals between the 38th and 40th minutes. Degabriele served Dandolo with a cross from the right flank and the latter scored with a hard rising shot from outside the area.
Pisani then served Gabriel Aquilina with a through ball in the area and as Mizzi came out of his charge to narrow the angle he tripped Aquilina and Roderick Zerafa made no mistake from the spot kick.
The second period was shorn of actions as Sliema kept possession of the ball for long stretches. Cutajar saved a free kick by Michael Cutajar after Nigel Azzopardi was fouled outside the area.
Luke Agius served Mousu in the area and Cutajar foiled him with a timely sortie. At the other end, Gabriel Aquilina served Muscat in the area but he drove out with only Cutajar to beat.
In the last action before the end, Jesmar Degabriele dribbled past three opponents but his effort missed the upright.
