Valletta A point away from Section honours

Following this game Birkirkara are in second place on 47 points from 21 games, three points less than Valletta who are on 50 points from 21 games and a draw in their last game against Paola H will be enough to win the Section.

Floriana ended their commitments on 25 points from 22 games and managed to retain Section A status.

Birkirkara started on attack and Ryan Camenzuli dribbled past three opponents but after entering the area he missed the upright.

Aden Galea then served Luke Montebello with a through ball and Greens keeper Jurgen Borg partially saved his shot from outside the area with the ball being cleared.

Floriana replied through Leo Muscat who miscued his shot. Later, Bonello with a back-pass and he missed the bar by inches from his shot.

In a Stripes attack, Camenzuli pounced on a faulty clearance but drove over the bar from outside the area.

Floriana opened the score on the half-hour when Emmanuel Briffa served Degiorgio who anticipated the sortie by Stripes keeper Jonathan Martinelli and scored with a lobbed ball.

Four minutes later the score became 2-0. After a well-taken flag kick by Degiorgio from the left flank Bonello scored with a header in the top left hand corner of the net.

Galea dribbled past an opponent and he missed the upright from outside the area and Montebello served Roderick Taliana with a cross from the right but he missed the upright from inside the area.

Before the interval, Muscat served Guzman with a cross from the right flank and Martinelli saved his shot from outside the area with a diving save to a corner.

In the second half, Dylan Aquilina served Montebello in the area but the latter drove over the bar from a very ideal position.

The Stripes were close to scoring through Montebello in the 59th minute, but his shot hit the base of the upright with the ball ending in Borg’s waiting hands. Borg then saved in two attempts a shot by Galea. 

Birkirkara reduced the gap in the 62nd minute. Camenzuli converted from the spot after Rodney Debono had handled the ball in the area.

In the 69th minute Birkirkara came close to an equaliser when Camenzuli entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and he missed the upright by inches with Borg beaten.

Isaac Galea then served Joseph Briffa with a through ball but he droved over the bar from inside the Stripes area.

Camenzuli received a cross from Montebello, entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and scored with a low shot.
