There will be three new Awards to be distributed during the Replay Gala Night on Net TV which is to be held on Tuesday 7 June.
Programme presenters Chris Micallef and George Micallef yesterday launched this year’s edition which is to be screened live on Net TV that evening.
Chris Micallef said they were proud that the programme had reached high levels as to be recognised as the best TV sports programme in the recent awards.
He thanked everyone especially Louiselle Vassallo, Broadcasting Manager at Net TV, for their help and support in producing the Gala Night.
He said the special awards will be the Top Star Player which will be voted for by the players themselves, the Young Star Player Award (for Under 23 players) and the Top Star Coach award, to be voted for by the 10 Premier League coaches.
George Micallef said the success of the programme Replay was thanks through a collective effort from the team that also included the technicians.
Here he revealed the three new awards to be distributed this year. They are the Best Referee, to be voted for solely by journalists, the Under 17 Player, which will be voted for by coaches of the Under 17 teams and a selection of MFA coaches at Ta’ Qali and the Best team of the Year, a Premier League best XI to be voted for by coaches. These will vote for players in each particular role.
He also announced that the Lifetime Achievement Award this year is named after the late beloved Hamrun Spartans president Victor Tedesco. It will reward three personalities – an ex-player, an ex-referee and an ex-administrator. And the presentation is to be made by members of the Tedesco family, among them Louis, who together with Charles Saliba, will be compering the evening’s programme.
Also presenting an award together will be two Parliamentarians, David Agius (PN) and Chris Agius (PL), while William Chetcuti, Double Trap World Champion, will also be presenting one of the awards.
Finally, Micallef said that the Viewers’ Choice Awards will, as usual, be made through an SMS. Anyone can vote their preference for the Best Player of the Year by sending an SMS on 50617091 till noon on Tuesday 7 June.
Gram Collections are the main sponsors of the Gala Night, but there were several other sponsors collaborating.
