The conclusion found in the report by the Centre for Family Studies of the University of Malta, that 67.4 per cent of respondents said that if divorce is introduced in Malta they would not consider remarrying even if they obtained one, is, in my opinion, defective.

My question is this: how can anyone who is still happily married today say what he/she would do if his/her marriage breaks down in the future, when one wouldn’t have, as yet, experienced the trauma of marital breakdown or, perhaps, lived on his/her own for a number of years without being in a relationship.

The same argument applies to those who today say they are against divorce and will be voting ‘no’. But, as often happens, when marital breakdown hits their own marriage or that of their children, their anti-divorce arguments quickly change to a pro-divorce stance!
