Your editorial column ‘Who are the real animals’ (TMID, 21 May) about the dog Star, who was left to die buried after being tortured, brought once again to the fore, the great compassion of the Maltese people for all those who suffer at the hands of people who have no conscience or any sense of human compassion.
This comes at a time when the Maltese people are being asked to vote on whether the Maltese people should give those who are suffering because of the total breakdown of their marriage, a second chance to find happiness, serenity and stability in a new relationship in marriage, or whether we leave them as they are at present, abandoned by Maltese society and the state to their fate.
My question is this: Will the Maltese people show the same sense of unbounded compassion and readiness to help as they have shown to that poor dog Star by voting ‘Yes’? Or will the Maltese people turn their head the other way and ignore those who need this civil right to start a new life, by voting ‘No’ or not voting at all?!
