Purely as an observer, I have to say I am confused by press reports in the past week. On the one hand I understand from what I have read that some priests in Malta are suggesting that if people declare they will vote for divorce in the forthcoming referendum they will be denied absolution when making their confession. They may also be denied receiving Communion.

By complete contrast, we have been presented with photos of Robert Mugabe receiving Communion at the Vatican.
