Valletta and former Malta striker Terence Scerri, (photo) was yesterday handed a one-year ban by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner after last Sunday’s incidents at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium soon after the final whistle of the FA Trophy final between Valletta and Floriana.

Floriana won the match 1-0 thanks to a late goal from former Valletta striker Ivan Woods.

Scerri is suspended from all football activities. Moreover, he has also been suspended for five FA Trophy matches.

Scerri slightly injured Floriana’s Christian Cassar after kicking him in front of TV cameras. The Floriana player had just been pushed to the ground by some angry Valletta players, among whom was central midfielder Jamie Pace, who received a three-match ban.

Last Monday, Scerri and two Valletta fans were arraigned in Court. Scerri was accused of trying to seriously injure Cassar and with being a relapser.

The player would have been automatically dropped from the national team squad, but at present, he does not form part of that squad.
