Cycling: David Millar Still has to confirm his participation but there are no objections

Malta Independent Saturday, 28 May 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Maltese Olympic Committee yesterday confirmed that there are now no objections for cyclist David Millar to join Team Malta in Liechtenstein.

However, the cyclist’s participation is not yet confirmed. Although everything seems to be in order in so far as the Commonwealth Games Federation and the Scottish Cycling Federation are concerned, Millar himself still has to confirm his presence in Liechtenstein, although he was expected to do so yesterday evening or today.

In fact, he is still taking part in the Giro d’Italia which comes to an end in Milan tomorrow.

Millar is considered as a potential gold medal winner in the cycling time trial, in which he is one of the world’s few specialists.

Doubts arose in midweek over his availability after the Scottish Cycling Federation raised an objection in the sense that they were afraid to lose his services for the 2014 Commonwealth Games if Malta made use of his services at next year’s Olympic Games in London.

However, after assurances from the Maltese Olympic Committee that they only needed Millar’s services for the Liechtenstein Games, they gave the go ahead for Millar’s participation.
