This year is dedicated to volunteering, and when you give to others you feel happier than when you receive.
Many people offer to be a helping hand to others, here in our country, and this is a blessing. During the summer, instead of taking a holiday abroad, some people go to give a service to many people living in poverty in the third world.
On Sept 11 2001, Stephen Siller, a firefighter in New York, was off duty, but when he heard about the attack on the World Trade Centre, he went to help his comrades, only to die with them.
Jesus said: “The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them”.
Khalil Gebran writes: “You give a little when you give your possessions, it is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”
To reach such level of generosity, especially to be generous also with your enemies, you must live a life united with Jesus.
It is important that all the good that we do to others we will do them for the love of Jesus.
Finally may we always live the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would like them to do with you.”
Surely our life will have a meaning if we can be of service to others in one way or another.
