Malta placed seventh and last in the road race yesterday.
The teams consisted of Maurice Formosa, Etienne Bonello, David Galea and Jason Vella.
Formosa, Bonello and Galea finished almost together. The former was 21st in 2:39:06.76, while Bonello finished in 2:39:06.9 and placed 23rd. David Galea finished 24th in 2:39:07.65, but Jason Vella was way back in 27th place in 2:48:13.26.
Malta’s total time over 33 rounds was 7 hours 57 minutes and 21.35 seconds.
The race was won by Luxembourg whose time was an impressive 7:59:22.69 over 36 rounds. Second were Liechtenstein in 8:07:16.08 over 36 rounds and third San Marino in 8:13:14.95 over 36 rounds.
It is well to note that Luxembourg’s four cyclists finished among the top nine cyclists with Bob Jungels finishing first in 2:36:26.82.
