There is no other road for Nationalist MPs but to vote ‘Yes’ when the Bill on divorce is presented in Parliament.

The people have voted for the introduction of divorce, and now Parliament must do its job and enact the law.

I can understand those MPs who will choose to abstain when the vote is taken, so as not to go against their conscience. But I will not forgive and forget those MPs who will be voting against the law when the Maltese, in their majority, have voted in favour of having it.

If they do so, it would be better if these MPs call it a day, and resign. Going against the wishes of the people would be tantamount to political suicide, and so they might as well do the honourable thing and hand in their resignation.

MPs, like everybody else, are accountable for their actions. They are there to represent the people, and they should never vote against their wishes. The divorce Bill was not in either of the pre-election manifestos, but once the people were asked to give an opinion, their views should be respected.
