The Men’s Doubles team comprising Matthew Asciak and Nicki Camilleri are assured of a bronze medal after they reached the semifinals.
The quarterfinal against Andorra came to an abrupt stop when Malta was leading 3-1 after Andorran player Joan Baptista had to retire injured. His injury was sustained the day before though he played in a Mixed Doubles match on that day.
In any case it was good to see the Malta team enjoying some luck. In fact, had the Malta-Andorra match not started, the bronze medal would not have been awarded to Malta, although the chance to advance further remains.
The Malta team is now expected to face Monaco’s Couillard Guillaume and Thomas Oger in the semifinals today. The latter pair received a bye into the semifinals.
