Satisfaction

Malta mentor Gordon Asciak was elated with yesterday’s performances.

After the opening day’s disappointment in the Mixed Doubles, he was glad to see his son Matthew, playing such a brilliant match against Sigursson.

Said Gordon of Matthew: “This is the way he needs to play in every match. Today his form was by far better than that of the previous day. It was an impeccable performance which satisfied one and all in our clan. I could not expect anything better from him.”

Asked about the prospects of the doubles team, Asciak said: “Today we were lucky – we needed it for a change. But from now on, it will be very tough. Against Monaco we are aware that they are strong, but one can never say what will happen on the day of the match.”

Asciak also said that it was a very positive for Malta yesterday. “Such an excellent victory for Matthew and an assurance of a bronze medal in the doubles is a boost for our squad,” he said.
