Two More wins for men’s and women’s teams

Malta Independent Thursday, 2 June 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Malta’s Men’s and Women’s teams continued their solid march towards the top as they registered their third consecutive win.

This time, their victims were Luxembourg, one of two teams – the other is hosts Liechtenstein – who the Maltese think will also be challenging for the gold.

The women won 3-0 while the men’s team won their match 4-1.

After yesterday’s matches, Malta lead the men’s standings on points difference over Liechtenstein (569-452 for Malta against the 561-488 of Liechtenstein). Both have played and won three matches so far. The excitement is expected to reach fever pitch this afternoon when they face each other in the final match.

Earlier, both have another match to play with Malta facing Andorra and Liechtenstein meeting Luxembourg. If the two teams, as expected, win these matches, then the Malta-Liechtenstein match will be the gold medal decider.

In the women’s standings, Malta was yesterday figuring in second place, one point behind Cyprus. The latter have four points from four wins and only one match to play – against Malta this morning. Malta has three points from three wins with two more matches to play – against Cyprus and Liechtenstein.

The following are the results of yesterday’s matches:
