How right you are Mr Vella about the standard of driving (TMID, 1 June). I would dare say that in my more than 45 years’ experience of driving, this era must be the most chaotic and dangerous of all times. 

We witness cutting across lanes being done with impunity. And don’t mention ‘slow’ and ‘fast’ lane – on our roads they do not exist. If you drive on the so-called fast lane, the driver behind you will force you to drive over and above the speed limit. Tailgating is random and no courtesy whatever is shown if you want to enter the main road from a side road – drivers will actually speed up not to let you out in front of them.

In the inner towns and villages, most drivers zoom through the grid, sounding their horn at every corner, without slowing down. This is a most dangerous practice and at times like these the wardens should make their presence felt. There are other countless examples where wardens could and should put down their foot down. It is useless stationing traffic wardens only in front of a high-up or when a truck is unloading and the like. They should be made to tackle the real offenders and road hogs that abound.
