The Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Golden Sands hosted its annual Responsible Business Weekend last weekend. This annual event, which is part of the resort’s ongoing corporate social responsibility programme, is aimed at reinforcing awareness of the company’s and the individual employee’s focus in the areas of social and ethical responsibility toward the community, health and safety in the work place and environmental sustainability.
The weekend was organised and managed by the resort’s Responsible Business Champion Ray Vassallo, together with all the management and staff. Activities during the three-day event included a billiards marathon, as well as an animal show, lectures on energy saving, a fun run and even a fair on the Sunday morning. In keeping with the theme of sustainability, the resort’s restaurants served a selection of local specialities and also hosted two events on the ballroom terrace, highlighting local flavours and ingredients. Third party sponsors of the activities included Citroen Malta. During the weekend, the resort collected donations for St Joseph’s Boys Home.
The event was opened by United States Ambassador Douglas Kmiec and Island Hotels Group chairman Winston V. Zahra.
Resort chief operating officer Ernest Barry said: “As an organisation, we at Island Hotels have always placed a great deal of emphasis on managing our hotels and resorts in a sustainable manner, adding value to the community whilst always seeking opportunities to develop resorts with the environment in mind.
“This resort in particular has been developed with state-of-the-art technology aimed at reducing its environmental impact, included water treatment and recycling, as well as energy efficiency systems. Looking ahead at the exciting development we have planned for the Oasis at Golden Sands, the concepts presented will result in one of Malta’s most eco-friendly developments with a minimised carbon footprint.”
